Much of our recent work has been about highlighting the potential risks from low-level radiation. This video, presented by Dr Jeffrey Patterson of Physicians for Social Responsibility, gives an excellent overview of some of the issues associated with low-level radiation.

 

 

NAG objects to AWE's 'Hydrus' planning application

| | NAG has submitted an objection to the 'Project Hydrus' planning application at the Atomic Weapons Establishment.  The application is expected to be determined by West Berkshire Council on 29th September 2010.

NAG submits comments on development near AWE to Boundary Hall inquiry

| NAG has written to the Planning Inspector who will be conducting the Boundary Hall public inquiry to give our views on development in the vicinity of Atomic Weapons Establishment sites.  Public safety must come first, according to NAG, and the Inspector should turn down the application for a proposed housing development close to the AWE Aldermaston perimeter fence on the Boundary Hall site.  To read more about our views and find out how you can submit your views to the inquiry please click on the link above.

NAG meeting: February 2010: New Studies on the Impact of Low Level Radiation

NAG complains to Ombudsman over AWE Burghfield planning application

NAG has written to the Local Government Ombudsman to complain about the manner in which the planning application for a controversial new nuclear warhead assembly / disassembly facility at AWE Burghfield was handled by West Berkshire Council.

Environment Agency - Response to public consultation about radioactive discharges from AWE Aldermaston

We are pleased that these discharges are currently at a very low level. However, we are aware that this may not be a permanent state of affairs, and therefore suggest that limits for disposal of alpha emitters to air are retained for future radioactive waste disposal authorisations for AWE.

DEFRA - Response to public consultation about Long Term Management of Solid Low Level Radioactive Waste

The basic principle needs to be that the polluter pays - the production of radioactive waste involves responsibility for its long-term storage.  Any subsidies from the taxpayer should be dealt with on a justification basis
